This block of four 1d reds has been sitting in one of my stock books for about twenty years. It sat there because it is not used and as such did not have a home in the main collection.

On closer inspection it is from plate 199 - nothing unusual there but look at the perorations there appears to be a pin missing in the horizontal row and two missing in the vertical row. This can be seen easier from the back.

I am amazed at just how much I missed first time around with a lot of stamps bought at that time. I am now in the process of revisiting a lot of my stamps that have become 'old friends' over the years. I will post anything interesting that I find.

Ralph

A very nice block of four Ralph!

Getting a stamp out of a block to use must have led to many torn / damaged stamps.

When you get around to the more modern material that you have hopefully I might be able to help with any questions.

Best wishes from Scotland.

Brian....machins.

IS this type of error common? Does it add value to the stamp?

Fernmato, it's not uncommon to find some missing perf holes on old and new stamps. It would only add value if ALL the perf holes were missing on a perf'd issue.

Fernmato,

the odd missing pin id not uncommon what makes this block interesting is that three pins (2 in the vertical row and 1 in the horizontal)are missing so close together. As to value, that is for a buyer to decide, for me it is just a curiosity and another path to follow... Why were the pins missing and how many would need to be missing before repairs would be deemed necessary?

I'll let you know if I find out... Unless somebody on the board lets us know...

Ralph

The one thing I have discovered over the past few weeks is to LOOK at our stamps. by looking at all our familiar items with new enthusiasm it is amazing what we find. By rechecking descriptions and using knowledge we have gained over the years since items were added we have found a whole new interest.

I will let you know if we find anything else that may be of interest.

Ralph.

I probably say this every six months, or so, but one of the great benefits of continued learning (especially here at SCF) is that you have reason to go back through your duplicates to look for new things.

Going back through material you've been holding is free entertainment.
