Can someone verify this on other SSP panes?

Yes, I can. My SSP pane has exactly the same sort of microprinting you described.

The doubled microprinting on the SSP Baubles occurs on only one of the 5 blocks of 4, but it occurs on every one of the SSP Baubles panes. Without pulling one out to look at, I recall it as being the left most block, but I don't recall whether it is on the 8 stamp or 12 stamp side of the pane,.

The doubling of the microprinting has been known for some time and isn't scarce. It occurs on the leftmost block of four on the 12 stamp side of the Sennett convertible booklet. Linn's ran a story on it in the April 23, 2012 edition. In that story, Chad Snee says that they will be listed in Scott as an unlettered variety, and with an explanatory footnote. If you have a recent Scott catalog, they should be there (unless Scott changed their mind in the meantime).

In the 2013 Scott Specialized, Scott nos. 4575-4578 each have the following unlettered variety: Cylinder flaw ("USPS" microprinting doubled). Value is undetermined at this time.

The footnote reads: The cylinder flaw on Nos. 4575-4578 always appears on the four stamps to the left on the 12-stamp side of the booklet.

I know I'm bumping an old thread but I recently purchased the SSP panes from USPS on ebay.....so if you wanted to get the doubled USPS microprinting they are still available.

Thanks for the information. To summarize what has been stated earlier (assuming I understand it correctly) the error is present on all SSP variety CB20s (booklets, not panes, as I don't think they ever issued panes of that stamp). Anyway, the "error" referred to (doubled microprinting) only appears in the first block four stamps on the left side of the booklet where 12 stamps are present.

To order these stamps via the USPS Website or USPS ebay, you'll be referring to USPS Order #679604 at a cost of $9.20 for the CB20.

You can try this thread. There's info on how to differentiate the Four Flag varieties.
