I'm not a U.S. collector, so I'm not familiar with those issues. Someone that does know will surely be along to help you out in the morning though.

Are they unopened booklets of stamps? Or are they just the covers?

Hello daviscfad.....

and, welcome to the club.

As I'm sure you are aware, all groups of collectibles use common words that can have different meanings.

To me, a good stamp is.......any stamp I like.

You're booklets are good stamps.....still good for postage.
Are they good collectibles ?............very much so, many collectors have added these to their collection.
Are they stamps that will increase in value.......slowly eventually, maybe/possibly.....no one can say absolutely.

When collecting stamps or anything else, you should pay for only those you like. I would never buy any stamp because somebody told me it's a great stamp......If you do not like it before you pay for it, you will probably never be happy with it afterwards.

There are a variety of ways to store and protect stamps and there are books, guides and tools that every collector should have, such as a pair of tongs, perf gauge, color guide and others. We can help by giving you information.......but in the end, all decisions are yours. The only real rule for stamp collecting is........

It's your collection, YOU make all the rules.

The 1986 Ameripex stamps were some of my favorites when I was just getting into stamp collecting around 1984. I have an unopened booklet in my collection as well, plus it could have been used for admission into the Ameripex show in Chicago that year. 1986 was a good year for stamps in my mind: the Presidential sheets and Great American series were issued. I have now been collecting for about 24 years.
