For the past few months, we've had lots of activity in Auctions Forum. Thanks to all those who've parted with great material at reasonable prices. I picked up a few cool items; I know others have too.

I noticed this morning that the number of active Auctions has dropped substantially. Now would be a great time to list your items here on SCF. You might even make enough money to buy your spouse a Christmas present

Finally, as you may know, I've been trying to help moderate the Buy/Sell/Trade forums. I try to move Auctions to the "ended" section in a timely manner. Threads in the other B/S/T areas are moved after a transaction is made or after 3 months have elapsed.

So, assuming you meet the requirements for selling (2 weeks and 50 posts), now would be a great time to get started.

Kirk, I enjoy putting unneeded material up at auction...and the regular fellows that buy from me are great..but every once in a while someone will high bid my item and then they disappear...i know theres nothing that can be done about it..and it really did not cost me..but it can be demoralizing....i don't expect that the powers that be are going to monitor the auctions for me..but one or two situations like I mentioned can slow me down a bit !!

We all appreciate the work you put into this, Kirk!

Phil, when that happens, just offer it up to the 2nd highest bidder, or relist the auction. It's annoying, but it happens even at the best sites. Hmmm, I don't owe you any money, do I? I know I owe some Forum members some stamps that I still haven't been able to find (fortunately, I asked them to hold off on payment until I could find the stamps).

Kirk, do we still do things the same way -- send note to staff -- after the sale/auction is over?

Now that I've found my scanner power cable and will try to clean up my stamp room...

Yes. The "send note" link still works.

How about modern USA covers with used modern postage? Does anyone think there might be interest in that sort of thing?

I've been saving them up for a few years and think now might be a good time to unload, I mean, put them in the hands of someone who would appreciate them more than I.

I have a fairly big Russian collection I'm contemplating putting up that I havn't really gone through for varieties and watermarks but there are several laid papers, imperf pairs, and I tossed in azerbijan and a few georgias since they are relevant . Just need time to scan properly but I don't want to part for $10 so it'll have to be one of them higher starts and see where it goes but always prefer to let SCF have first options then ebay if needed.

For a balanced view,
experiences I have witnessed on SCF

Member wants "gift option" so as not to pay paypal fee
member does not claim payment and requests another payment
member is emailed cost is $2.50 pays $2.00 instead
member says "other SCF member who won that bid has not answered"
"so I can let you know, you may have that one as well"
Then I get another email..."Rod havn't heard from you" ?

Not really a cool scenario for mine.
If it keeps happening I will not be bidding anymore.

On the good side, Londonbus, Joel, Dianne Antonio Philb etc
others I cannot list, always come up trumps great service....

It wasn't me was it? Oh man, I hope not... I'm talking about "high bidding and vanishing"
I'll bid on things that I really want/need but I make it a priority to always pay up. If I have missed anything please let me know OK? I don't think I have bid on anything in quite a long stint though.

That was me, and I chock it up to a misunderstanding. I just wanted to be sure, Rod, that you were cool with waiting a while to see if the other auction panned out. I in no way intended to communicate that you were in any way deficient, slow, or untrustworthy or any other possible negative connotation.

I am sorry to have been an annoyance.

Kirk,

I appreciate the work you've done to clean up the "forgotten" listings -- it has made it much easier for all to find the current offerings.

For the record, every time that I have sold to, bought from, or traded with an SCF member via the forum it has been a positive experience from start to finish.

Not an annoyance Smauggie,
it was the fact that about 6 incidents occurred in the space
of a week and I was beginning to think I was going batty.
Usually auctions run reasonably smoothly.
But, I guess we have to expect hitches,

I recently had a glitch in my desktop calendar,
which I re installed, and consequently missed
a "meals on wheels" appointment, I arrived a day late.

I cannot tell you how rotten that made me feel,

"The best laid plans of mice and men, often go awry"
and the tragedy that befell Thomas Hardy's "Tess of the d'Urbervilles"
