Maharaja Kerala Varma II of Cochin

was always portrayed with that Nixonian 5 o'clock shadow, and the first go at showing his brother, Maharaja Ravi Varma

was hardly flattering, either.

QEII looks hot, sweaty and grumpy in this stamp from St. Lucia. I always thought it to be an odd portrait and wondered why I only ever saw it on St. Lucia stamps - in those days, British royal portraits would usually show up on all kinds of stamps from many different countries in the Commonwealth. It turns out that the portrait has a direct connection with St. Lucia, as the artist was the son of a former administrator on the island.
