Hello everyone, I am still very much a beginner, and need a little help. I have about 60 stamp albums both U.S. and world wide. In addition I also have many old postcards and covers. I obtained these from 3 different estate sales. Many range from the mid 1800's to mid 1900's. I purchased these for investment, but I have yet to identify any valuable ones; although I have only scratched the surface.

I originally started condensing or filling one large U.S. album and one Large World Wide album, but it was taking too much time, and I felt like I was not getting anywhere. Then I started to search these stamps in online auctions, stamp websites, and google searches to see what they sell for. I also refer to my older Scott catalogs from 2001.

I am also debating purchasing the 2012 Scotts catalogs, or looking for a good website that I can pay a monthly or yearly fee. Something that would give me the same or better results in identifying and valuating stamps.

I listed a few on ebay a while back and was very disappointed with the results.
What is the best way for me to go about this? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. I was not a collector, but in this process I have taken a liking to the older covers and first day issues. My goal is to eventually sell off the stamps to cover my original investment and support my new hobby with the covers. Please inform me if you know of any good websites to subscribe to.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Yet another one!! Check our www.inheritedstampcollection.com. But if you werent happy with www.ebay.com/b/260/" rel="nofollow">ebay (and you are sure you listed them correctly with pictures etc), you might want to consider someone who sells on www.ebay.com/b/260/" rel="nofollow">ebay for others.

Also, check out http://www.stampcollectingblog.com/...on-value.php

See this qoute " Everybody dreams that they have a stamp collection worth big bucks. Here's the painful truth: About 99,9% of all issued stamps are worth nothing else than they're handling costs. Even my collection (which is about 50,000 philatelic items) is worth very little if looked as an investment."

and this one from the same site "And finally… If you want simply a quick and dirty "take the money and run" -solution… Place the stamp album/collection on sale at ebay. And (VERY IMPORTANT!!)… Scan/photograp everything (=every page in collection) you're about to sell. Make sure the photos are accurate and good quality before placing them with the item description. And (EQUALLY IMPORTANT)… Place the starting bid to be very modest (10-30€/$)… If the collection contains anything valuable, it will sell (and possibly even go up). "
