Well I forgot my book today, so I'm gonna ask this by memory. On the Lincoln Head stamps my book said something about horizontal stamps with vertical imperfections? Or something like that. Can someone explain this to me? Here's a picture of my stamps, look pretty perfect to me. What's your opinion?

Sorry the scan is not that good, still trying to learn IrfanView program.

Hi LeAnn,

This is a block of 4 of the normal Scott #1734 13c Indian Head Penny stamp.

The Scott catalog mentions a perforation error for this stamp, which is listed as Scott #1734a. The abbreviated listing in the catalog says:

a. Horiz. pair, imperf. vert.

which specifies a horizontal pair, imperforate vertically. This means a side-by-side pair of stamps which have perforations across the top and bottom edges of the pair but no perforations between the stamps. Since the pair is missing a vertical row of perforations, it is a production error, and that is why it is worth considerably more than a normal pair of stamps.

What a great learning experience this is! I think I'm spending more time over here in the stamp forum learning about history than the coin forum--someone might get jealous!
Thanks!
