Ravenna, Ohio Precancel Type 703

I am assuming both of these Ravenna, Ohio precancels are Type 703, with the 1c variety having been smeared due to poor inking/imprint:

However, if one were to look at the 20c stamp, note the variance in the sides of the first and last "O"'s in "OHIO". Is this a minor variety?

The Town and Type catalog does not note any variants for the 703. It would be interesting to find more and compare. It's hard to tell anything when compareing it to the smeared 1c.

Well as I do not collect precancels or have any greater knowledge on them. I do however know a little bit of design.
I am curious if there could have been a possibility to have two different font types ? How was these precancellations made ? were they all made the same way or did they use different techniques.

These precancel plates were issued by the POD from Washington DC. Private contractors fabricated them under government contract. Usually the fonts are uniform within the device. The differences in the stamps shown above are most likely from sloppy printing done in Ravenna. These PSS703 were made of metal so they do not deform like the older rubber devices did. The two stamps shown look like the same type to me [close enough for government work, etc...]
