Our state fair officially begins today and there is a color cachet cover with a pictorial postmark issued 8/8/-8/17 and they sale for $5.00 at the most. These are done annually and I have picked up one for the last several years. This year the theme is "A FAMILY TRADITION" for the postmark and a picture of this years Butter Cow sculpture. I am planning on going tomorrow evening and will hopefully get to the Postal Station on the grounds to get my cover before they close. There use to be a state fair philatelic display, but it was budget axed a couple years ago which is unfortunate.

Does anyone else collect state fair covers or cancels? I think my oldest one is from the 1970's. If anyone has any they are willing to part with I may be interested.

They also tie in well to my route 66 collection since it had run along the grounds on the east side along Peoria road/9th Street in Springfield.
