I have mounted most of my GB pre decimals,
and it is time to forge on into the decimals.

Now these Machins, is there any advice out there
that a collector can mount a representative collection
without delving into the myriad of varieties
eg excluding using the UV route.

Is there such a thing? anyone achieved a short collection?

I have an image of a supposed short collection, but turn to the
SCF intelligentsia.

Thanks.

I have the red one, and the blue one, and the orange one, and then that black one that is kind of bigger.

Works for me.

OK, OK.
That's a start, I guess.
Do I collect the ellipses perf issues in the general mix
as the booklet pane examples, or seperate and mount them in another collection ?

Rod, you might want to download the free Machin pages from adminware.ca (see the below link). Robin Harris has a basic 25 page color album that you can use for pre-decimal, decimal and regional issues.

If you want to keep it simple just have a 1/2p,1p,1.5p,2p etc.
Look for different colours on some stamps, there`s a bunch
of 20p. As for the ellipses, I would save them as a separate set.

Mr Harris has worked for me. Wide enough to feel you are truly representing the issue, narrow enough not to get bogged down when you want to keep it simple.

Just another suggestion, Rod, I base my Machin collection on the SG Concise catalog. You can't just go by the major numbers, because under many of the numbers are different versions of the stamp---primarily differences in the phosphor bands. If you want to ignore the phosphor varieties, then you could make a collection of just the major numbers in the SG Concise.

I am sure you will find that the Machins lend themselves to almost any degree of specialization you care to go to. The Deegam handbook (on CD) lists what they term a basic collection, but it is rather extensive.

The pre-decimals are a walk in the park compared to the decimals.

Rod, would you like all my spare Machins? I would gladly give them away to a good home.

I like that stampgal, that's what I was after.

Rohumpy, I have tried a few times before using SG
and was never happy with the result, I couldn't breach
the "do I?, don't I?" decision with the bands.

Trigger, as you know, Australians are bursting at the seams with
Machins, it's from all those letters from rellies in England,
but having said that, good examples are hard to come by.
The print ink is easily damaged on the chalk.
Thanks, but I'll wade through my box first.
