Greetings... New Member Here

Hello all. I'm new to the forums and after reading many posts I felt this was a good location to talk with like-minded individuals and learn some things in the process. I have been an avid coin collector since age six and recently became a stamp collector through the introduction of the hobby to my son.

I attempted to get him on the coin train, but he never seemed to get the bug. He happened to find some of my stamps and stock books that I haven't looked over in 25 years in the closet. He suddenly became hooked and to help us spend time together I decided to pick the hobby back up as well.

My son collects US stamps & covers and I collect stamps from Germany, France & Austria. I really enjoy special cancels and full cancel marks. I think it sort of adds a bit of story and history to the stamp. As a child I would look over the coins and think about what each of them did for someone. Now I look at the cancels and the dates of stamps and ponder what news or what windfall was brought with this stamp.

I have a large spare collection of many German and Austrian stamps and my son has a huge selection of US spares if anyone is looking for something just let me know. We love to trade and swap stories. Sadly we live in a rural area in Louisiana with no location for stamp supplies or clubs so the internet is our only outlet for stamp knowledge and info.

Thanks all for the warm welcome. We are working at the moment to get our collections into albums that we have made ourselves so as the process gets further along I would love to post some pics. Even though the cost of a self built album exceeds that of a bought album... I feel that making it yourself sort of adds to the accomplishment of completing sets. Right now I'm mounting my German States stamps and cursing the fact that I'm almost out of mounts :P. Well at least 25's and 39's.... I hate mounting stuff out of order but with the holidays I think a shipment will not make it before Christmas. *sigh*.....

And a hearty from me too Chief. You will like it here for sure.

Austria and Germany are also part of what I collect
albeit only modern issues.

Mike you just joined the best stamp club and forum going. We all love to trade, sell, show and ask questions so we never tire of new stuff and are glad to rehash the old. Welcome and happy holidays!
