A post office-style take on "'Twas the Night Before Christmas":
Quote:
'Twas the night before Christmas and all thru the plant, not a creature was stirring, not even an ant. The mail sacks were hung on their racks with great care, with hopes of bright packages that soon would be there. The DBs were all ready and the DIOSS was too, to sort all the Christmas cards for me and for you. Both the flat sorters were as prepped as could be, for sorting toy catalogues on Tour I and Tour III.
The AFCS was really quite hyped, to cancel all Christmas stamps, whether metered or typed. The maintenance crew had been busy as elves, and as usual they had outdone themselves. The mailhandlers on the dock were all filled with the spirit, ready to unload any truck that came near it. The clerks were all ready to overcome any barriers that might try and forestall getting the mail to the carriers.
Yes, all seemed ready but it was all too serene, for not a package or letter or card could be seen. When out on the back dock there arose such a clatter, I flew through the bat doors to see what was the matter. And what to my wandering eyes should behold but a whole fleet of mail trucks coming in from the cold. They backed into the bays careful but quick, with the kind of driving that would rival St. Nick.
The mail was unloaded and stacked on the floor, every clerk and mailhandler knew what was in store. The machines would be running all night and all day. Could we finish on time? Well, we just could not say. We had all been working non-stop and with great speed, but it soon became obvious we could not succeed. Even our fancy machines could not withstand the imposing amount of letters on hand.
We were ready to quit, we were all out of play, when on the scene arrived Santa to salvage the day. And then, to Santa, his elves then reported, and before we all knew it all the mail had been sorted. Then Santa was gone in the blink of an eye and we heard him exclaim as he went thru the sky, "Merry Christmas to all and never be nervous, the mail always gets through with our Postal Service.
"Here's wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and as Tiny Tim observed, "God bless us, every one!
