Hello blain..... In my opinion Mystic is very over priced. There are many sellers on ebay & on-line that can provide better quality at a lower price. |

to the SCF blain! It would help to know what you plan to collect by country, mint or used, etc. I agree with notrare though, any company like Mystic Stamp will tend to be a bit (or a lot) overpriced. Online auction sites like Stamp Offers ( http://stampoffers.com/, StampWants ( http://www.stampwants.com/login.php) or ebay would be a good place to start. After you get your required posts, you can also buy, sell and trade with other members here. |

Blain I agree with the above comments ..Mystic is a large company with big overhead..advertising etc..try and find people like the folks here on the forum with duplicate stamps they will sell you stamps at a fraction of what Mystic charges and I am not impressed with the condition of the stamps Mystic sells for full catalog price or more...Stampwants is good or try Stampoffers.com collectors selling to collectors..you can get stamps for 25 percent or 1/3 of catalog value ! |

Welcome!
Is the stamp collection you are expanding yours from a earlier time or a more recent possession. There are several people who can help you spend your money once you reach 50 posts for buy/sell/trading.

Hi, Blain - I've only been here a few hours longer than you have, but I'll welcome you anyway. I've been welcomed in spite of my unconventional stamp collecting methods so I think this is a pretty safe place. Everybody seems to have a good sense of humor. Here's my Mystic Stamp Co. story - I ordered a FREE catalog from their website. When the catalog came, it came with several little envelopes of stamps. I thought, "How nice! They sent me some free stamps, too!" A few days later - after putting a few of these stamps in my stamp journal - I discovered an envelope and a form letter, inside the catalog, saying that these stamps were sent on approval and if I want to keep them, I owe $10.00. I sent the $10.00 because I can't be sure that I didn't click on the wrong thing when I ordered the catalog - maybe I asked for these "approval" stamps without realizing it. Anyway - if you order a free Mystic catalog, be careful. Judybug |

Judybug, I found there are a couple of stamp companies that do that--send you something that you didn't order--the stamps really aren't worth much at all but --one even said they would send monthly packets for my approval! I said "No thanks!".
Welcome Blain--just put the word out to friends and family that you're collecting and you'll be surprised what you get back--my mom even dug thru some old bill boxes and found some stamps on old envelopes from the 1970's.

Gussyboy1 - Yes, when I saw that Mystic had sent these stamps "on approval" and I decided to go ahead a pay for them, I did wonder if that would encourage them to continuing sending "on approval" stamps so I included a note with my $10 telling them not to send any more. I hope that's the end of it.
