Love the PAIN stamps awesome colors. That 1902 stamp at the top is really interesting seeing as how it appears to be printed on a $2 IR Doc. stamp with no color. Will be interesting to see what can be found about it.

Either way, a nice pair and probably not seen too often.

Only things I can say is... it's probably NOT from plate 12 up to 36 as they usually have Maltese Cross cancellations. Probably NOT from plate 37 up to 77 because of the rounded "J". Only other thing I can add is that you can find out if the stamps are Alphabet 1 or Alphabet 2. If Alphabet 1 then plates 78 to 131 are possible. Alphabet 2 means plates 132 to 177. The "ray flaws" are obscured and my eyes are bad so I cannot see anything more helpful. Great pair of inverted watermarks. Good looking stamps and worthy of a plating... by an expert!

Thanks for that info Scotzm.
So does that mean it is not from earlier plates ?
[I didn't think I would find the expensive type did I ?]

Now what do I do with all the other Blacks,Blues and Red-Browns !

I can at least put you out of your misery on the fourth - red on buff paper - stamp above. It's a modern forgery of (probably) Soruth SG 13. No value, I'm afraid: these forgeries are quite common.

If the India Study Circle was stumped by your pair of Indian 5 Rupees, as a humble member of the ISC, I hesitate to stick my oar in ... but that 'CANCELLED' looks reminiscent of similar strikes I've seen on earlier Indian revenues. I wonder if this might be an unauthorised revenue usage of these postage stamps.

The pain looks to be a 1947 French bread ration stamp. Awfully nice pair of 5Rs.

The 1902 with large "2" and star punctures
looks to me like a Guatamalan Revenue.

Thanks Tony,Cjd and Rod [again] for your input and help. Every snippet of info is useful and there are so many stamps/labels I haven't a clue about.

Rod, the Revenue with the '2' and punched stars are on a very light coloured, partly embossed US IR Documentary. It's probably the strangest item I have come across so far. But it will probably have a simple answer too !

Thanks guys.

This is not a question, just a sad find and one of a number of items in similar condition.
I think the collection suffered a bit after the owner passed away and was uncared for.
I have spent the afternoon putting everything in new glassines, stockcards and stocksheets.
All the old album pages and albums are gone.

This a real beauty apart from the toning which just about ruins it.
I think I'm going to weep.....

Thanks SV !
Problem solved.

Mr Lovell....keep popping in. I'm off to scan some more now. It's a slow process but lots of fun.
Not many Flags in the collection but I'll scan when I find them.
I have to sell all of this lot, I am just a stop on the way to a permanent home.

And yet some of the stuff is just too good to say goodbye to......
