This is just an oddity I thought I would share. It is a pretty clear CDS cancel from 1916 with the year plug inverted.

and the front

Very nice! I can't wait to hear more about it. Is it rare? Is it valuable?

Are you sure it just hasn't been post-dated to be mailed on July 7, 9161?

This is the kind of covers that I look for - ones with something amiss, mysterious, or just plain strange. Nice find!!

Dont think it is rare, I believe the stamp is a Scott 424 and I have seen other plug inverts but it is an oddity and something which I enjoy finding, and if it was postmarked in 9161 what does that mean. Who's calendar could that have been? :)

"The Road to my happiness, is the path that leads to you"

It's not rare or valuable, but it's Mr Lovell telling us in his own unique way that he loves us all and is happy he found us.

We are happy too Mr.Lovell, you are just great !

I guess they figured a way around inflation by 9161 - if a postcard is a penny again.

If this calendar for 9161 is correct, July 7th will be on a Tuesday!

Here's an interesting little tidbit about the Wardsboro, VT post office:

Quote:
In 1894, the U.S. Post Office dropped the "ugh" from town names ending in "borough," so Wardsborough was thereafter known as Wardsboro.
