I listen to a variety, depending on my mood. Rock, blues, swing, big band, a little zydeco, a little jazz. Unfortunately I often loose track of the music while I'm absorbed by the stamps!

I listen to music almost all the time I'm working on stamps, and prog music is one of the things I listen too. But then again, I tend to listen to all kinds of genres of music. As the saying goes "Variety is the spice of life."

Some very interesting answers, thank you all.
As for classical surely it was the prog of its day?
Beethoven and Tchaikovsky would have been in bands like Yes, if they had been around at the time?

I listen to podcasts of indie college radio. The music really depends on the whim of college student who is running the show. If the show gets tiresome (sometimes they do) there are plenty of stations on the internet. Not always listenable, but never boring.

My current favorites are WZBC(Boston College) and WMBR(MIT).

Interesting observation, as I've always thought that Mozart was the 'punk rocker' of his day :)

Although I'm a complete metalhead, I do listen to various other stuff including classical..in fact, there cant be many ipods around that can go from Iron Maiden - Billy Joel - Vivaldi - Slayer - Beatles - Misfits - Frank Sinatra - Korpiklaani in successive songs :P

That could have happened when I used mp3's, those exact artists/band. And weirder combinations too. These days I tend to use Spotify, especially after the external hard drive with the mp3 stopped working...

Maiden,
I can see Mozart in 'The Damned' sure.
While Stravinsky would have been in Maiden.

I've finished loading my CDs onto itunes and my ipod (Christmas present). 14,000+ songs on random, who knows what is next (currently listening to Crawler, Paul Kossof's band from the mid '70s until he flew LA to New York.
