All, I've found this forum, and am looking forward to joining a great group of people who (from the posts I've been trolling) seem very supportive, and very passionate about collecting stamps. To quickly introduce myself, I used to help my grandfather collect stamps when I was young. I was 14 when he passed away, and took possession of the collection. Several years later, it was stolen. I was upset, but since I wasn't very knowledgeable, it was more of an emotional loss than anything financial. Now I'm 40, and am back to collecting with my children. I'm a few months into it, and am looking for a place where I can share my excitement, get questions answered, and hopefully help others when I get some more time tucked away under my belt. So, to sum it up, 'Hey everyone!' Cardinal Bass

Welcome CardinalBass! I think you will enjoy it here, but then, you already seem to know that. It's amazing how many of us relate stamps to some experience or person of our youth. Makes it much more worth while, doesn't it? |

I collect US stamps. I had collected stamps with my grandfather growing up. We would sit at the kitchen table, and he'd have his coffee an toast, spreading his collection on the table. He'd say "See this? This is a good one". It was wonderful. When he died when I was 14, I took stewardship of the collection. I didn't know much about it, but it was sentimental none-the-less. Several years later, the collection was stolen from me. Heartbroken, I abandoned the idea of getting involved again.
Now, I'm 40, and I have two wonderful kids. I have the time and resources to collect again. I've only been doing it for a few months, but I'm really leaning into it. My wife doesn't need to know, really! No seriously... |

CardinalBass, Welcome to SCF! If learning is your intention then you've come to the right place. Good luck with getting your kids interested in collecting. If you haven't already found it, there may be some things of interest to your children on the APS website ( http://stamps.org/Young-Philatelists ). Steve p.s., I think you may be the first SCF member from Uganda! |
