Fifia, here is a 3D stamp of a different kind

A grain of rice glued to the stamp. I have sent this through the postal system, and the stamp survived the journey intact.

Birthday anniversary commemorative stamp for His Majesty King Bhumibol, issued 17th February 2011 (delayed from 1st December 2010)

The collection of special stamps to collectors around the world offers a new embroidered creation:
"Enzian" emerged as the first embroidered stamp "Edelweiss" in the Studio of the Austrian embroidery company Hämmerle & bird. Special stamp travels around the globe and tells the story of the art of embroidery and of the alpine plants. Threads and colours follow the natural shape of Clusius gentian (gentiana clusii), about 100 years before Christ birth discovered King Gentius of Illyria.

South Africa 2009 "Dinosaurs"

This set of self-adhesive dinosaur stamps is the first ever with a 3D effect to be issued by the South African Post Office. It will also be the first time that a pair of viewing glasses will be supplied with each stamp sheet and commemorative cover.

The method used to create this effect, is known as an anaglyph. An anaglyph is a stereo image that requires special glasses with red and green (or blue) lenses for 3D viewing. To achieve the effect, two views of a picture are printed in two colours, usually red for the left eye and blue or green for the right eye.
