Evening all,

I've got a Washington 2 cent pair that I'm not clear on. I think it's around 526, 527 or 528. It's perf 11x11 without a watermark.

Yeah - I'm bummed about the black spot, but even if it was clean, it's not going to fund my retirement.

Thanks for helping them find a home in binder #1...

Cardinal-- It looks like a pair from a booklet.
Take your tongs and rub over the top of the stamps to see if it's smooth but my guess is that it's not, and it's a flat plate stamp.

Flat plates are engraved, so they have raised spots of ink all over the stamp. It does not look like an offset, and in the 520's it would be an offset.

My guess is that it's a pair of 499e, and if you have the entire booklet, NH, it's worth $6.75-- so it's collectable, but I think you're correct in that it will not send you on an around-the-world cruise for the rest of your life! :)

There were no booklets in the perf 11 other than 499e. Pretty sure that's what you have there.

Hope this helps, Ray

Thanks, Ray! It is not smooth, so I'll mount it and book it under 499e! Some of these earlier stamps stump me because there's so many re-issues, colors, perfs, watermarks, etc...

All the best!
