Stopped For A Couple Of Beers At The Nashua Stamp Show

Scott #REA41 50c orange (1/2 barrel) beer stamp on pale green paper with short
greenish blue fibers and portrait of Thomas Jefferson in black, issued in 1878.
This one has some faults, including a repaired tear in the upper right corner.
However I have found that if you get too fussy about small faults on beer stamps,
you will never own any.




Scott #REA62 $1 yellow (1/2 barrel) beer stamp on dark blue paper, issued in 1898,
reflecting the 100% increase in the beer tax to $2 per barrel!

Here is a close-up of Thomas Jefferson on the $1 stamp.

This beer was in the "pile to mount" for the last six months.

I found the portraiture to be interesting, since both pictures are very similar to those found on US currency, which I also collect.

Note on the Beer Stamp how Washington's face seems to be rounder, and while he seems to show the trace of a smile on the $1 bill, he doesn't on the Beer Stamp.

Jefferson is the exact opposite; on the $2 bill, his facial expression is almost like he's staring indifferently; on the Beer Stamp, he looks as though he has sampled the wares and put a good dent in that barrel! In fact, he looks like he was the life of the party!
