Hi, I'm looking for stamps I heard were issued by some Arab states before 1948 referring to peace with Israel. Does anyone have any info on such stamps? I could not find them in catalogs.
I was told they had some airplanes in them - not sure about it. Some showed the Israeli flag.
Any clue will be appreciated.
Thanks, Nadav

Nadav,
Welcome to the SCF.
I think more info is needed, I have not heard of such items. Do you have anything more specific you can tell us ? Which countries ? Weere they real stamps or for propaganda purposes ?

Hi, the stamps are from Arab countries (the ones shown in the first reply are from Israel). I don't have more info then what I already said. I don't know if the were real or for propaganda purpose. My dad claimed he had them but they were lost long ago. He had them when he was a kid, him being born in 1936 I guess they were issued before 1948 (when the war between Israel and some Arab states started). |

Don't want to get political here, but I REALLY doubt that any Arab country expressed a desire for peace before 1948! |

Well - I won't insist on 1948 :) but I don't refer to the 1978 peach with Egypt. I will appreciate tips for searching as well. |

Hi Nadav And welcome to SCF. I believe no state (Arab or other) could have issued stamps referring to peace with Israel prior to 1948 as Israel was not even born yet. However, your father's memory may reflect a general design of a stamp. Let him have a look at this 1946 Jordanian stamp. I have a strong feeling that it might be it. This stamp, however, is not referring to Israel. It commemorates the coronation of King Abdullah and the independence of Jordan. So let your father have a look and we'll take it from there, OK? |

Hi Seahorse. That's an interesting one indeed but I can't ask my dad. He passed away last year.
Do you know of any similar stamps issued by other countries in the region?
I remember he specifically talked about airplanes and colorful designs. He did not mention the dates - it's just my initial assumption since he was born in 1936. |

Nadav, I am sorry to hear about your loss. I have been browsing my catalogues and some auction sites (the philatelic equivalent to window shopping) and did not find any stamps that would match your description. The only Arab country that issued stamps depicting Israel around 1948 was Egypt but they were in commemoration of the war rather than peace. You might have more luck contacting the Philatelic Judaica Society in Tel Aviv. I am certain that collectors there will be knowledgeable about Arab States' stamps with Israel as a theme. I took their phone number from the web and haven't checked it myself: 03-6054054. Please let us know if you found what you were looking for. |

Joe1225US, There are two major Hebrew speaking boards. One is dedicated to collectors of all sorts (not necessarily stamps) and the other has no active moderates in it. It seems that Golum and some angry Trolls have took control over there, and it is almost impossible to maintain any kind of civilized discussion... If anyone feels moderation is a nuisance I will always be the first to defend a strict one. On that board I was referring to, the lack of it destroyed any chance for descent collectors to chat and communicate |
