I like going to garage and yardsales in the summer months. To be honest, it is rare if anything philatelic is available but, there are the odd exceptions.

One day, about 4 years ago, I went to a sale only a mile from where I live and there was a "White Ace" postcard album with 16 cards from the 1936 Chicago Century of Progress in it. I got everything for $2.00! The album brand new I was told could sell for $25.00 alone. I might add that the album is like brand new.

It does pay to go to these every now and then.

I just remembered another venture of mine.

I was in a used bookstore right here in town and was really shocked to see a Scott's stamp album for German States and Colonies. This was like brand new too. The owner told me he was in a good mood and the album was priced at $20.00 and he let it go for $15.00 instead. The gold lettering on the greem Morroco binding was like brand new too.

That was a real steal.

Got lucky today. This morning my daughter and I were out running errands and also stopped at several garage sales (its sunday)At one garage sale a man had a medium sized box of stamps covers and 3 usa albums. I asked him how much.....he told me he had been trying to get rid of those stamps for weeks, if I wanted the box I could have it for free. He just wanted to get rid of it.....now I have a treasure trove to go through next week.

I agree with jamesw and am going to go saling this Friday. I could swear when I was young, garage sales were on weekends, now a days, they start Friday, or maybe it is just California that does this?

Hooray for sfgoda!
You must let us know what wonderful treasures you found!

Everyone have a good night!

My friends who patronize garage sales all seem to have the same advice: get there early.

Many people who run garage sales will discount heavily on the final day of a sale, just to get the stuff out.

Sfgoda, that was a great find! You can't beat free!

I, too, can't wait for garage sale season to start.
We have about a month to go here in Wisconsin.
The city I live in is fantastic for sales.
Some sales will start on Tuesday evening, then they
run on Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.
Some people will even open up on Sundays. It always
takes me twice as long to run errands during the spring
and summer, because if I see a sale sign, I've got to stop!

Oh gosh, silly me!

I didn't understand why people all over couldn't go to garage sales now, and have to wait for the right season.. duh!

Spoiled in California I guess, was mid 70's last week, though a bit colder this week.

Snow, snow, no snow LOL...
I had my share in Utah, my goodness sometimes the temperature in the teens! And there was a really bad storm in Philadelphia in 1996 or so, and big ole pot holes over there too, but I am sure they are all fixed by now. I always got scared of the toll booths, didn't know what to pay or where I was going, not understanding you had to pay to drive on the freeway? LOLOL..

Sorry got off subject, ha!
Anyway, all have a great night!

I always look for stamps at garage sales (of course not during the winter!) but I rarely find anything, because I always get there too late. So many times I ask the seller if they have any stamps, and they say they sold them right after the sale opened. We have a problem around here, too, with the sales starting in Friday, which makes it hard for people who have jobs. But I'm working second shift now, so I'll be going out Friday mornings when garage sale season starts!
The auctions around here don't yield anything good. I find people regularly bid up the prices to more than the items are worth, not just for stamps but for anything. Not like when I lived in Connnecticut, and we could get real bargains from the auctions!
