As far as I can tell, the Scott catalog lists only two separate varieties for the 22c Uncle Sam Coils either 3263 (perf. 9.9 vert.) or 3353 (perf. 9.75 vert.).

I have no clue as to how to tell such subtle varieties apart. Here are two examples that look as if they could be the two varieties, but if so, I'm not sure which is which:

What comes to my attention is the vertical lines in the face and hand of the left image and the ragged looking edges of the perforations that seem to look a bit different on the left stamp as compared to the right. The perforations are so close, though, so I'm not sure if it's really the different varieties.

Anyone care to share their opinion?

wt1, the 3263 is a serpentine cut and the 3353 is a standard perforation.

Thanks.

So by default, both of the examples shown above would have to be Scott #3263 (serpentine die cut).

wt1, do you have a #3353? If not, I'd be happy to look through my stock for an extra to send to you. I still owe you one for the #1580B that you gave me. Let me know, and thanks again.
