I was looking through an old Album I purchased not long ago and come across a 1897 Rhodesia £2 Rosy Red which I believe is Perf 15, SG 74 CV £450 in 2011.

I was just wondering if another British Commonwealth collector can verify this for me?

Also could you tell me how much I would be able to sell it for on todays market.

Here are the pictures of this stamp in question:

Thanks in advance for your help

It looks like a revenue cancel, but I will leave that for others to confirm.

If a revenue cancel, then the 2011 Scott catalog value is US$22.50. In general, revenue cancels are far more plentiful than postal cancels on these stamps. The general catalog values for used stamps are usually for postal cancellations.

The perfin might give additional value. Will need a perfin collector to chime in.

Thanks for your reply and the helpful information khj.

I wonder if any members can help me with a perfin catalogue that they can look this up with.

Hi,

my Barefoot Revenue cat lists this at £10 . No mention of a value for perfins

Thanks heaps for the information mariost, makes a very large difference in value from Postal Cancel to a Revenue Cancel.

If anyone can shine light on the perfin that would be great also.

Fiscal cancels on these Stamps will always be more plentiful as the stamp was intended for Fiscal use which is why Postal cancels on Revenue Stamps are far and few between and often bring in high selling premiums. As far as the Perforated initials, many will say that it detracts from the value but there are collectors who specialize in Perfins so they are collectible.
