Quote: OK, but just remember that Philately will get you nowhere ...
I disagree. It will, at the very least, get you into deep trouble with your other half. And james, I can send you some nice items to sort through if you're desperate and the PP is empty ! Londonbus1....Closets are for stamps not clothes ! |

James, You're hooked so let me pour fuel on the fire. Here is a little more on Lieutenant Weavers' Civil War record and some background on the 39th Georgia. Steve Quote: Weaver, W. A. -- Private - March 4, 1862. Elected Sr. 2nd Lieutenant January 31, 1863; 1st Lieutenant May 15, 1864. Surrendered at Greensboro, North Carolina, April 26, 1865. (Died in Walker County, Georgia in 1917.) http://39thgavolinfrgt.homestead.co...omepage.html |

Quote: It will, at the very least, get you into deep trouble with your other half. Very true Mr. Bus. My wife is often upset that I disappear to my studio and spend time either with those little pieces of paper, or online on some horribly influential stamp site ( ). And as for your kind offer, sure! thanks. I would be more than happy to take any of your cast offs. Keep that stamp monkey on my back happy for a little while. Thanks for the additional info, Steve, didn't know he'd surrendered. It's going to be quite a page in the cover album. His grave marker even has the Masonic symbol on it. I've emailed the Georgia Masons about Lodge No. 233. It's not on their website of listed lodges. Possibly 'extinct' at they say. Oh, great, look at this. My hands are shaking again! |

LondonBus,
Sorry, but it appears that my half-hearted attempt at a joke did not go over correctly. When I said that, "Philately will get you nowhere", it was actually a play on words to the classic, "Flattery will get you nowhere."
I whole-heartedly agree that Philately will get you somewhere. In my case, I'm connecting with my Grand Daughter in all new ways, explaining the history of the world though stamps. Lots of fun, lots of quality time. |

Quote: Thanks for the additional info, Steve, didn't know he'd surrendered General Robert E. Lee surrendered to General Grant at Appomattox Courthouse on April 9th, 1865. As word of his surrender spread, and absent a functioning Confederacy government, most Confederate troops surrendered during April and May. |

Got an email back from the Georgia Masons today telling me "our records show Wood's Station Lodge was chartered on October 31, 1890 and consolidated with Quitman Lodge No. 106 on October 1, 1941." There you go, case close. It's going to be quite a page.

I am also a fill-a-telly-a-tisk (how badly it's mispronounces varies from non-stamping person to person) Quote: I've recently realized that there is no time of the day I am not thinking about stamps. I dreamed I was at an auction last night, and couldn't remember my number! I've never dreamed that, but I have had many other dreams about stamps, in which usually I am given a very valuable stamp. Sadly, I always wake up. I always feel I need to buy something off ebay, but I am always outbid! maybe I need to start using the ebay bidder thing. |

I'd forgotten about this thread. Blocked that period of my life out I suppose. I'm much better now. Found help and am working hard to be a better example for my community. And, of course my children! If you're wondering what ever happened to that tattered old envelope, it's preserved, for posterity, as a reminder of those dark days. Here it is, with all it's tawdry information. I pull it out sometimes to remind myself of who I am, and who I'm supposed to be. When I look upon it, and can't help think of those dreadful times, and what it means to me...me...my......my PRESSHHHHEEEEOUSSSSSSSSSS! *oh, sorry* |
