Hello, From Florida!

I'm new to the forum, obviously, but I'm looking forward to learning just about everything I can about philately. I'm here first and foremost to learn about watermarks.

I have been handed about every sort of stamp I can think of: Foreign and US, singles, plate blocks, panes and sheets, In binders the size of encyclopedias.

Some have been sorted, US from foreign. Others are still sitting in mail bins of single stamps from all different countries.

I have a couple of books to go by, the stamp catalogue for 2010 US-BRN, the scott catalogue and the idiots guide to stamp collecting to name a few.

To be honest, I'm going in blind though.

The 1847USA site is a good site too. Lots of info there on USA stamps. I refer to that site often.

I thought I might post up some pictures of the terribly unorganized stamp room, to give you an idea of what I have ahead of me.

I'm determined to sort them all though. So far? I've sorted out most of the Air-Mail and I have started special delivery. It gets tricky with the early stamps though... No perforation guide and all of them are the same colors.

Disorganised? Looks a lot more organised that I was until recently :) Luckily my work was getting rid of a nice 4 drawer filing cabinet, which I've put to good uise.

Hello incorruptibleid, welcome!

It would be best to stand all those stamps upright, like books on a library shelf. Having them lay flat is a bad idea for long term storage for mint stamps at least. And dust is a big enemy of stamps so cover everything with dust covers for binders or something.

Dust and d ark and moisture makes mold, orange / brown spots on stamps, otherwise known as toning or rust. You may be OK if your humidity is medium or controlled.

Filing cabinets is a great idea.
