Hi Cephus,

I am going to be biased. How about Colombia? The stamps are available. There are a few ebay dealers from whom I have purchased stamps and the dealers are very relaible. If you decide I'll give you a dealer in Bogota, Colombia.

Page after page of monarchs or whatnot

There are no monarchs, or dictators, but predidents and lots of historical and archeological themes.

For me historical is interesting as my wife is Colombian. My avatar shows a stamp with the house that my wife grew up in.

My choices would be France, Austria , Denmark(they do have monarchs on them but great designs!) and Costa Rica..

Cheers

Being a cover collector, I ask you if you have considered creating a cover collection? For example, first flight covers from the state you were born|raised|live in, try to collect a cover with a cancellation for each day of the year you were born in, covers from government agencies, etc . etc. etc . .......... The options are endless.

HI Footballphilately

This is sort of a repeat of my initial thread.

Mercury stamp company was the office next to the one I was working in. One person in that office was an expertizer for Colombian stamps. I went in to ask a question about a US stamp and his partner said why collect that junk. Alex, the Colombian, said collect Colombia and he gave me a bunch of stamps to take home to look at. I took them home and my wife looked and said that's my house. So I stopped US, sold my France and started collecting Colombia exclusively. Eventually I added the rest of Gran Colombia, Ecuador and Venezuela.

The house is in Tunja in the department of Boyaca. The last battle for Colombian independence was fought in Boyaca so it is very historic and one reason for the stamp. Another reason is that the stamp is part of a set that a relative was instrumental in designing.

If you think the house on a stamp is cool this will blow your mind. Some of wife's relatives, distant but related, are also on stamps. Also a lot of famous people were at the house as her aunts were concert pianists.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I think I'll be somewhat boring and go with China as it does meet my criteria and is readily available, and is one that I initially looked at. Interestingly enough, on Delcampe China MNH is far more available than used, exactly the opposite of Australia and I've already dealt favorably with some of the dealers there, plus I found a "local" dealer my wife is using for Japanese stamps and they have a good selection of China as well.
