bobgggg, your post brings up an interesting point. Now that images of living persons may soon appear on US stamps, is the standard five-year rule (except for presidents of course) between an individual's death and their appearance on a US stamp a moot point? My feelings aren't as strong as yours about a Dick Clark stamp. What I'd really like to see from the entertainment world would be a block of four of Paul Newman, Elizabeth Taylor, Charlton Heston, and Rock Hudson - before all their fans are dead.

Ipmiller;

Roy Scherer - very bad choice. Dick Clark would be an excellent choice for sales and popularity in comparison.

RIP - American bandstand and Every New years ball drop I can recall were all celebrated with Dick Clark. Truly transcended quite a few generations and even as he was getting sicker remained almost ageless. I guess we will be getting Ryan Seacrest for new years from now on and as he's matured I think he will carry the torch with alot of respect. I definatly agree Dick clarke deserves a place on postage possibly a New years commem.

He was part of my life ever since Chubby Checker. Sure will be missed. He will leave a hole impossible to be filed. Rest in Peace Mr Bandstand.

Interesting you should say that, as I had just heard this one yesterday:

...at the suggestion of no less than Dick Clark's wife, the portly youth was re-christened Chubby Checker, the name a sly reference to Fats Domino.

I agree Bob.

He does have a Rose Bush named after him. And I just happened to have ordered it for the Garden Center This year. I think I will find a suitable place in my gardens for him.
