philb - you're right about the trolling, but at the end of it how satisfied do you feel when that 'one country' album turns out to be a gem that everyone else missed? I too spend ages trolling for Barbados and occasionally find an absolute gem. Last month I found a fantastic 4 margin SG4 which the buyer had no ideas about, simply listed as 'Barbados blue stamp' and no scan just a grainy photo. I bid what I thought was appropriate for a fake (just in case...) and lo and behold won it for pennies. And when it turned up it was a beaut.
The main problem with
ebay, as with many other walk of life, is their near monopoly and symbiotic relationship with Paypal. Of course it can be argued there are alternatives, but in much the same way as there are alternatives to Google, they don't really amount to much.
Now if someone can come up with a fully moderated stamp auction site that reached as many potential buyers as
ebay then we'd all be interested!
