Just got back from the stamp show where I traded an unused C13 plus some serious cash for the C13-C15 used set. A true "bucket list" moment as that completes the USA airmails. And I was happy to work with my local dealer. Had to share with you.

Very nice set. Nicely centered, too.

As an added bonus, all of the stamps are postmarked at the same location, too (Varick Street Station, New York, NY).

Not that this has anything to do with the Zeppelin stamps or the Varick Street post office, but I found this to be an interesting side note as to how Varick Street got it's name:

Congratulations on completing your US air mails. I noted that all three were postmarked similarly with the Varick Street Station, NY and "Register or Insure ..." cancellations. Makes me wonder if one of the previous collectors/sellers had a particular interest in having them cancelled from the same post office. Appears to be too unusual to be an accident. Makes for an interesting discussion.

Check out pages 10-11 at this link:

If the article is accurate, it suggests that: "Most used [Zeppelin] stamps...have cancellations from either Varick St. Station (New York City), Lakehurst, NJ or Washington DC. The Varick St. Station post office processed mail for the flight probably directly received from the Zeppelin Company..."

Those are the only ones I'm missing from my U.S. airmails, but since I only collect MNH, they're going to have to wait for a while.

Very sweet.

I have set one of my goals to be C1-24 (less C23) with VF centering and SOTN cancels within a year of issue. I think if you search on ebay and Stamp auction network you won't find any others with such clear SOTN as you $2.60. Verick cancels are common with month and day, but usually the year gets cut off.

wt1, thanks for the link to that article. However, it takes some of the mystery out of it for me. The cancellations are no longer very curious, just routine. Beautiful stamps none the less.

Thanks for the Varick St info - I thought these were nice clean postmarks - sort of a matched set - so I was happy getting them.
