Here are my latest confed stamps.

I am not sure what this is, or if any value. It was part of a auction I won. I think it is a bond of some kind.

Very impressive collection, stampvirgin. Well done. Your CSAs must be coming close to being completed.

All I need is a 9 & 10 to finish. I just got a few of these others to add to the collection.

Very nice. I always thought the 5 cent Jefferson Davis somehow did not "fit" with the other Confederate issues. It looks much more modern in concept.

stampvirgin,

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but your #7 is a "New York counterfeit". These fogeries are often attributed to John W Scott and were referenced as early as 1896. The color and the small dot above the upper left star are an easy way to id this fake.

I95..
Thanks for the info.. after a second look, you are indeed correct. Didn't pay as much attention to this as the others..(as I already have several legit #7's)
But, I am quite happy actually, It will be cool to add this counterfeit to my collection.

I only have a couple of these and didn't know much about them so thanks for the info.
Any pointers on this one appreciated. It has the smallest of dots but looks closer to the genuine than NY print.

Always finding new (to me) info on these. Thanks for the new knowledge and visuals. Had read about the short strokes but seeing them here makes it clear. And the 'dot' is very good to know.
I love these CSA pieces. Stampvirgin, I95, what's a good source for this sort of information? I access Dr Kimbrough's site constantly, he's a great source of reference. But are there other sources readily available?
Thanks in advance.

I've been very apprehensive (read scared) to begin a CSA collection for the reasons touched on in this thread. There are just too many fakes out there, and I am woefully ignorant of these issues. It seems that before jumping in, it would be wise to devote a fair amount of time studying this area, go into it slowly and heed the old adage that if something looks too good to be true, it usually is just too good to be true. Thanks for the info though as well as the sites addressing forgeries.
