themachine99, I'm not sure. Can you show a larger image? I don't know the Washington/Franklins that well, but maybe someone else can tell with a better image.

Just got this today.
Scott #73 - Looks like a double transfer across much of the bottom of the stamp? - Opinions?

I have had the #11 for a while and I believe because of the triple transfer on the left side that it can be plated as 99L3.

The 5 cent Washington is a discovery of mine which confuses me. The stamp is on cover and as you can see in the scan, the entire design is doubled throughout. The frame, the 5c, the U.S. Postage and even the bust show a shift to right and up.

Ashrunner,

Your #11 appears to be correctly identified as being printed from plate position 99L3. However, the extra lines at left are not the result of a triple transfer. Those extra lines at left were intentionally engraved on the plate after the design was entered.

You can see my copy of 99L3 along with a more detailed explanation at this post:

Harry,

Nice double transfer on that #73! I need to look at my copies to see if any of my #73s are double transferred.

That is just one of a fairly large number of double transfers on #73. They show up in almost all areas of the design, plus there are the famous valuable ones as well.

Here is a double transfer on the right side of US Scott #11, plate position 19L2L:

This is the same stamp used to illustrate variety number 30 on the USPCS web site:

Dan, I know you must be worrying about all those double transfers. You have to send them to me to help ease your mind. :-)

I'm pretty sure this is the 50 cent mortgage (R59c) cracked plate discussed earlier in this thread.

It is; this is the more usual way it appears. It also shows up in the top margin of the stamp below.
