Germany 1956 with a funny overprint or cancel. Looks to me like a bear with one hand raised.Have not seen such before. Any ideas? Thanks.

It's a commemorative cancel from the 1963 Funkausstellung in Berlin. There were several varieties of the cancel depending on post office. I couldn't find an exact match, but here are two from post offices 12 and 19 in Berlin.

As you can see on the above samples, there was also a commemorative stamp for the 1963 show bearing the same design.

Selva:

Berlin is associated with the symbol of the bear. No one exactly knows where it came from. On 1150, Albert the Bear inherited Berlin, then in 1280 a bear appeared on a seal document. Anyway, the bear is the city symbol and the mascot, and appears on its flag.

Here it is with the bear raising the hand:

Kind regards,

José
