Hi all,

I've just found a stamp collecting kit that I had forgotten about from when I was a child. They are all Australian. A few of them caught my eye but they don't have the year printed on them. Also they are in an old currency which I don't know too much about. Just wondering if anyone can identify the year and give me a little background info as I'm quite interested in the history there. I have :

*Aust 1 1/2d - 'Australia' in curve at top, green stamp with flowers in both top right and left corners. Queen Elizabeth turned only slightly to the right.
*Aust 3 1/2d - red colour with Queen Elizabeth II
*Aust 3d - green with Queen Elizabeth II
*Aust 5d - white with a dark green oval, Queen Elizabeth II portrait on oval, leaves in bottom left.

If anyone needs to see them i'm happy to post a scan. Thanks in advance!

First one 1 1/2d could be a 1949 issue. 2nd one 3 1/2d could be a 1953-1960 issue. The other ones I am not sure. Post the image and there will be many at the forum who would be more than glad to help you. With an image posted you are sure to get more precise details.

Hi Nixnax,

Welcome to the SCF.

Instead of just giving you the information, I thought you might like to check out this website...

Select the country as "Australia", then select the year.
You are able to select a range of years so type in 1953 to 1966.
QEII started her reign in 1953 and decimal currency started in 1966, so stamps with QEII on them must be between these years.
The first stamp you listed is the Queen's Mother (I think), so this will be earlier, around 1942. Happy hunting.

Steve
