Hello guys could someone please tell me the story behind these two stamps the one on the right has an overprint but they look the same apart from color was that common practice ?

See your other Japanese posting. Same issue, two different colours, SC97 violet brown and SC98 rose (actually SC8 Offices in China with the overprint).
