Hi there!

I'd like to get some information about these 6 pieces, I have the first 5 sorted under Britain and the last one as British India atm.. Please correct me if I am wrong.

I'd like to know the value and possibly a Catalog number. Thanks!

Name them 1-6, easiest.

Thanks!

EDIT: I know saw that this was perhaps the wrong place to post this. I can see now that on the US part, "cut squares" are located within "Back of Book"..

AFAIK, your 1 to 5 are indeed from the UK. They aren't listed in the ordinary Gibbons Commonwealth catalogue, but it's possible they might be in a specialised catalogue. However, cut squares aren't generally popular in most Commonwealth countries. The preference is for the entire original item.

No.6 is indeed from British India: it's part of a ¼ Anna postcard. They were printed in the (probably) billions. Not listed in Gibbons, but it could be from any one of #1 to #6 in Higgins & Gage. The complete mint cards are all minimal value, so this cut square is of no monetary value at all, I'm afraid.

This is what one version of the complete card looked like:

tonymacg,

Thanks for your input, and I know that they're probably quite worthless.. but for some reason, my grandpa thought they were worth saving.. So I'll respect that and catalogize them in the collection.

However maybe one the cancels could be worth some penny extra at least.

Thanks for the nice picture as well!

I quite agree with you, Tomten. I always find a page of anonymous mint stamps a bit dull. They have no story behind them. My used card from Jammu & Kashmir, or these cut-squares collected by your grandfather, do have a story to tell. That gives them real interest.
