Hi All, Was hoping for a little input on this 3 cent. I was thinking it may have been trimmed. The upper right top corner has a small tear. From what I see its a type 1, with the border all the way around. The back still has a brown paper on it. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if it was trimmed, I would expect to see the paper all the way to the edge, The paper actually stops near the edge.Unless of course the stamp was not wet all around the perf area when it was fixed to an envelope. The color is a concern to me too. I have been trying to get more familiar with colors but, I'm old and my eyes deceive me. Thank you all for your time... Keith

Keith, This stamp was issued imperf from 1851-57. This is a Type II with the inner framelines on the sides and appears to be a Scott 11A. If you are using an older reference (before abot 2005) the type designations have changes with the old Type Ia now being Type II.

So the type 2 is with the framelines all around? This has the frame all the way around. I have 3 others with the frame on the sides only. Thanks Keith

The Type I has the 4 outer frame lines (both sides, top and bottom) they are Scott 10 & 11 (Imperf) and Scott 25 (perf)
The Type II has the 4 outer frame lines (both sides, top and bottom) and the recut inner frame line(s)(sides only) they are Scott 10A & 11A (Imperf) and Scott 25A (perf)

The image posted clearly shows the recut inner frame line on the left side making it a Type II.

The stamps you have with framelines only on the two sides are likely the 3c type III or type IV (Scott 26 or 26A). Both of these are perforated.
