An interesting update on the pre-order sales of the MLB stamps:

http://www.marketwatch.com/story/te...p-2012-06-13

Although the news release quantifies the number of stamps sold, to relate it to the number of panes of 20, the statistics look like this:

719 panes or 41% of pre-orders for Williams
505 panes or 29% of pre-orders for DiMaggio
296 panes or 17% of pre-orders for Stargell
235 panes or 13% of pre-orders for Doby

Of course, the numbers could change as we get closer to the July release date of these stamps.

The latest USPS news bulletin of 07/03/2012 still has Ted Williams leading in the pre-order sales of MLB stamps:

The USPS has again reiterated their commitment to print additional stamps (for the sheets of 20) if the pre-orders warrant it:

A further update on the MLB stamp pre-orders just released today (07/09/2012) at this link with the Ted Williams Stamp still in the lead.

Of particular note is that they have included reference that they have confirmed 4 Player Press Sheets will be in quantities of 2500, as will the Individual Player Press Sheets (note they didn't use the term "limited quantities", which opens up the potential that should they desire to print more...well, who know's?):
