Either a crude forgery or an illustration cut from the page of an old album. What's the back look like?

This a 4d Gambia "Cameo" phantasy or cut out as suggested by Doug2222, 1859-1893
Typographed, the genuines did not have the line of Her Majesty's face
and later were embossed.

There was a huge bun fight between De La Rue and German printers,
after it was mooted to go with the German's at quarter of the price of production.

De La Rue scare mongered that the the danger lay in
the cheap price, printing on unwatermarked paper as in their production of their Heligoland issues.

De La Rue won the day, for a cheaper price and promptly printed the Gambia Cameo's on unwatermarked paper. :)

Just a polite comment,
you should consider amending your thread topic
to include Gambia in the text.

SCF is a searchable resource for collectors
and your thread will be lost forever in the hum drum, if
later queries on Gambia are searched.
