Hi Everyone,
I have decided to collect only foreign stamps.
Which means I am getting rid of a whole boat load of USA stamps.
I am starting off with 100 (more than) Franklins.

I am guessing these are very common and not worth much but I wanted to ask if there is anything that collectors would look for. Are there any marks or anything of interest that could possibly be on them?

Photos below.
Thank you very much,
SueStamps

Not worth much, but still collectible. I'd recommend auctioning them all in one lot here on SCF. I'm certain it will do better than you might expect!

Relics of the postcard boom of the turn of the century (which was a result of the tourism boom of the same era).

Those with readable cancels would be of interest to cancellation collectors. If there are any with perfins (didn't see any in the pics) those would be of interest to perfin collectors.

I would cull all faulty ones befor offering the lot for sale (I noticed some with heaving toning that would detract from the grouping if offered as an auction lot).

The only other thing that may help out is the centering of the stamp. If you have any that look close to being boxed, I would hang on to them.

What do you mean by "being boxed". Given the context it sounds like you are referring to those with perfect centering. Is that right?

Thank you for all the helpful replies.
I've already packaged them up for the auction, so if there is a boxed all the more exciting for the winner.

I've not thought to auction here as I prefer Paypal, and I think they will take 33 cents if I sell for $1.00,

No perfins, I keep those stamps separate and plan to rid them as well as the hundreds of precancels.

Oh yes, cancellations, I have a bunch of those in a plastic shoe box, different postmarks and cancels. Thank you for reminding me, hopefully that auction will do okay.

I think I will try auctioning off the blue Franklin 1 cent stamps here, maybe with as many older stamps I can put together.

Thanks again so much,
SueStamps

Or.. perfin or precancel, lolol.

While the probablity of finding a 279a example with a vertical watermark (sideways to the design) is low, the search could be rewarding. Few, if any used copies have been found. The Scott value of $7.50 is notional and is probably much too low. Older Scott catalogs will not have this variety because it was added only within the last couple of years.

How interesting!
I wish I had the patience to look at them all. I probably have close to 140 or so. I took a look at ebay but there is so much competition. Listia is good but only for credits to win other items on that site.

I suppose if I sold all my 1 cent stamps at once, I could get a couple of bucks on ebay, lolol...
Thank you,
SueStamps

Sue Any of the green ones in nice shape. I could perhaps send you a few 2¢ reds from the same set in exchange?

Hi I_Love_Stamps,
I have all the stamps in my original thread already sealed.
But, I went through the others that I still have in a binder and picked these out. If any interests you, just let me know, send me a private message with your mailing address, would be happy to send them your way. No need for a return swap.

Here are the photos:
