Forgive me if I should know - but, what the heck are these?

They appear to be from Austria. I can see dates, but no years. Can't seem to find them in my Scott Catalog.

These are various types of early German and/or Austrian cancellations VERY UNFORTUNATELY cut off from covers. Minimal value, I'm afraid, unless there's a rare town included here. Pure vandalism!

You won't find cancellations in the Scott catalog; Michel, maybe.

Thanks Doug - Were these applied to letters without stamps on them?

It's hard to say. Sometimes the cancellations were duplex types, part of which did not fall on the stamp. If I had to guess, however, I would say these generally came from stampless covers.

Thanks Doug - the paper on these seem very thin, if that means anything.

That is very typical for envelopes from the 19th and early 20th century.
