Top 3c stamp, scott#10a type II, very nice, now you need to determine if this displays a recutting of the frame lines at the sides, and inner lines at the sides. Doing so will add value.
Bottom 3c stamp, Scott#26

I think the first Benjamin is a Type Ia or c, making it Scott 19 or 19b (I can't tell which because perfs cut away part of the design on the bottom).
The second I would say is a Type V, Scott 24 (or 24a if laid paper). |

Thanks, Daryl. The Id doesn't change it is from Plate 11, B relief. I needed the scan for some ongoing plate reconstruction efforts. I don't know how many 22's you have but let me know if you end up wanting to sell it. |

why do you say that the top 3c washington is a Scott #11a? I missed something, what did I miss? Was it plate position? |

The top 3c washington, 10a/11a also seems to have a double transfer on "US Postage" doesn't it? |

The 11A bears no resemblance whatsoever to an Orange Brown 10/10A. The color and impression are way off. The stamp is just awful really. The impression is poor but there does seem to be evidence of a minor DT. |

The stamp is not desirable but that is not really what I was saying. Remember, I was answering the question: Why is it not a 10A? The quality of the impression is about as bad as it gets and you just don't see the OB stamps with such a poor quality impression.
When I am buying 1851's or '57's, I evaluate based on color, cancel, condition, centering, and last but not least, impression. If you or anybody else is not doing the same you may not be making good buying decisions. |

This ebay lot, # 170880379155, provides some good instruction on the difference in quality of impression that sometimes exists between the #10/10A Orange Brown stamps and #11/11A stamps. I am talking about the two stamps at left on the bottom row. The left stamp is a #10A and the other is an 11A. I can't seem to put a link in here - don't know why everything has to be so hard... |
