Can't find this. I'll say a jumbo stamp. Hand cancelled One Penny 'demand' stamp, but is cancelled March 25, "Paid 3" and ?initials? Think it might be lilac or light lilac. Perfs are so tiny my perf gauge doesn't go past 16.5. Any ideas as to what, where, value? Bob+

Thank you Londonbus1. You and Nigel are certainly savvy! Much appreciated-I even have Scott's and it is hard to navigate for me at times. |

Hi. I wonder if anyone could advise on a couple of stamps I found amongst a pile of otherwise used/franked stamps from early 20th century, mostly red one penny and green half penny (marked E(crown)R = Edward? in rough bundles which I assume are worthless. These are two larger ones, un-franked, light lilac in colour (thought they were pink) and still joined along the top/bottom edge. The only place I manage to find a picture of the same one is as shown here by FrBobT. It is hard to tell if they have been applied to anything but I suspect they have possibly been steamed off very carefully although edges appear undamaged. Would they have any rarity value? Thanks. |

Far from worthless... these are the Bickerdike Machine cancellations (Google it) and can be well worth researching for types and values. EcrownR are the Edward VII ones and if you are lucky you may find a VcrownR (Victoria) one amongst them. |

scotzm, Many thanks for your help and pointing me in the right direction. I will enjoy looking a bit more into the various stamps I have found. I see a dark reddy/brown Victoria (in square) one penny, a lilac Victoria (in oval) one penny, purple Victoria (1900) 1?, New South Wales Victoria 2 penny and 1/2 penny, etc. There are some US stamps amongst them, eg, dark green 5C (Lincoln?), brown/red 12C, red 2C (Washington), green 1C (Franklin), light blue/green 5C with goddess type looking to the left with standing cherub? A red/purple 12? with young man in oval marked Siam. Very interesting set.

I have now managed to find quite a bit of information on Wikipedia about the various stamps from that period and I see the Penny Lilac I initially asked about was printed in vast quantities so is common and low value I guess. Thanks. |

Of course, you can always take comfort in knowing your Bickerdike cancellations (EcrownR) are potentially worth 10 - 30 UK pounds..... EACH! Assuming they are on a postcard etc , I should add! |
