Cannot find the above stamp--Precancel 2 cent Postage Due D3 J81--in Scott's 2011 Specialty, p372.

A. It is Perf 11, Design measures 19x22 1/2mm, never hinged.
I am not familiar with the shading of colors so I do not know if it is dull carmine or scarlet. I would guess scarlet as it is a deeper color than some other D3's.

B. I have attached (what I think is) a J75 D3 30 cent postage due, unused, never hinged, and I think it carmine in color? Perf 11, design is 19x22 mm. Is this correct?

C. What does anyone know about my unlisted precancel 2c J81 D3? Is it listed somewhere now? Am I correct on 'B'?

The only other reference to a precanceled is a J66 D2b, page 372 Scott's 2011 Specialty.

Bob

A: it is dull carmine - the scarlet color is brighter more yellowish than the carmines - see my scan - the top 2 are scarlet.

B: yes - and a valuable stamp

C: the Pittsburgh precancel is listed in the PSS as style 243. your stamp is listed in the DLE [double line electro] catalog at 0.10 [lowest possible value].

Thanks for all the information Chase. You have really, and other too, helped me out...and hopefully will continue.

I am very much a beginner and the catalogs are a challenge. My first stamp album was bequeathed to me by my G.G. Aunt who died at 104 40 years ago. Her album has many different #1's, etc. worldwide and I did not know Germany was 'so divided' and I am now trying to get everything organized and identified. France and Spain are probably going to be a pain too, but you never know what you will find.

Again, thanks for your help and that of the Community.

I did not realize item 'B' was "valuable."

Is there anywhere I can obtain a color chart or does this knowledge just come with experience???

* What is and where can I find a PSS and DLE catalog? I just found, on craft paper, "block of 6 D2 half cent Postage Due Precancel Pontiac Mich"--attached. Are these in Scott's, if so where?! Sorry to be a pain.

In US stamps - postage dues have some of the most varied colors. The 19th century ones are even worse! I don't have a color chart and find them hard to use - just 60 years of experience. Color charts can be found occasionally on ebay. The Scotts specialized US does not list precancels at all in most cases. Specialized references on precancels can be found at our website: www.precancels.com . Your Pontiac is known as a PSS-208 - also minimal value.
