I have to admit I find the idea of possessing these letters repulsive, almost as if it would give credibility to Gacey and his kind.
But having said that, and I've said here before, we can't ignore history, or we risk repeating it. I've no interest in Nazi stamps, or Stalinist stamps, but we can't deny those groups existence and their place in history. I do collect Confederate stamps, that doesn't make me a slave owner.
I've read books about the rise of Nazism in Germany and Neo-Nazi culture today, in the hopes of gaining some understanding. People interests vary. It takes all kinds, as they say. That's what makes the world an interesting place.

But sometimes 'interesting' can mean scary!

Abraham Lincoln is my favorite American. He was the smartest, shrewdest, most compassionate president we've had. I dearly love him. That being said, if I had the opportunity to buy a letter written by J.W. Booth, I would. Would that be glorifying Booth? I think not.

I think, in many cases, it would not be hard to find disturbing behavior on the part of individuals in any country in the world, and, yes, in some cases, on the part of the governments of those countries. If we were to ignore the countries or individuals involved in 'infamous' behavior, we would quickly have nothing to collect. I regard the stamps and covers from these various parts of history as simply part of the documentation of the time period. Was it Santayana who said that those who ignore history are destined to repeat it? I might not be interested in a particular type of stamp, but I can't see any reason to criticize another person's desire to collect a particular topic or area.

Here it is.

Disappointing, isn't it? It's only a piece of paper!

However, for those of you who believe that it's evil, I will make you a solemn promise: If I catch it trying to walk out of my apartment, I will destroy it. I will not allow it to murder anyone. Sleep well, guys. I've got your back.

I'm fine with the idea of not collecting countries, eras, or themes because of ideological, religious, or any other reason for that matter. I truly respect a person who lives by their conscience.

All I ask for in return, is not to be judged by my collecting choices. The same goes for any other collecting choice. This topic might have a creepy factor off the charts, but it's not my place, nor anyone else's place, to judge those with an interest in this area.

If you don't like the topic, simply move along without comment!

I'm assuming from the date on the cover that the Menard Illinois address was the prison ? His home address was Summerdale ave. in Chicago.

zipper... no I don't collect stamps from those countries either.
Rileysan.. I am not judging you. I was just stating my preferences... You are free to collect whatever you wish.
It is a free country after all.

I believe in free speech. I might not agree with you, but I'll defend your right to express it.

I find myself compelled and conflicted about this piece and subject matter......It's like driving by a horrible car wreck and you have to look, but then you feel like you did something wrong for doing so.

I can't help but to find this interesting and I won't allow myself to feel guilty for wanting to satisfy my curiosity.

Yeah I like it. I'm not creeped out at all but I am, of course, thankful he's imprisoned! Clowns sort of creep me out though.. As far as the other subject goes- Do it however you want and with whatever you want! The stranger the better although I must admit that I wouldn't intentionally seek them out though.
