The August 13, 2012 issue of Linn's indicates that a new Evergreen booklet (Scott 4478-4481) error has been identified. Apparently the twelve-stamp side of the pane has no diecuts and the eight-stamp side has faint diecut on four of the stamps. Now here's the flat-out amazing part of the story, and I quote "The new error pane was discovered by a stamp collector in North Carolina who purchased it at a post office after a customer returned the booklet as defective."

Now just consider this word picture for a moment. Hmmm, obviously non-collector customer tells postal worker that "these stamps won't work 'cause they aren't separated from each other." Oblivious postal worker takes obviously flawed stamp booklet from knucklehead customer and then sells it to one of the luckiest stamp collectors in the universe. Now I ask you - how come this stuff never happens to me?

It reminds me of that recent "Pawn Stars" episode where a booklet of miscut and misperfed 8c Eisenhower stamps were shown. The story goes that the stamps were sold to a consumer who returned them to the Post Office after informing them that the stamps were miscut and couldn't be used for postage. In this case, the postal clerk exchanged the booklet for a correct copy and bought the "error" for himself and stashed it away for some years. Not exactly appropriate according to USPS policy, but it allegedly happened that way.

I don't know about you guys, but the only appeal and error has to me is value. If I found an error like that, I would probably sell it and get what I can for it.

It always amazes me that people insist on MNH stamps with OG, and any deviation from that, or damage to the stamps will decrease it's value, unless the damage is done by the USPS itself. Then it's desirable.
