I guess I'm luckier than most. There are 2 postal clerks in the post office I use. One is my former next door neighbor and the other is a member of the stamp club I belong to.

Our Post office is in the Shoppers Drug Mart so the ladies at the counter are not Public servants. They are very nice for the most part but there are 6 or 7 of them that cover that counter. They always smile when they see me comming because they like my colorful envelopes and always have more postage than I need. They are also anxious to show me what's new in stamps. If there is a lineup they wave me over to the side and let me go through the stamps while they are waiting on the other.

Dianne

1775 mac, what a shame you had to go thru all of that!
You all have seen those signs in Lawyers and doctors offices that say, "Time is Money", well, IMHO, those postal individuals should be made to pay you for your time!

I don't see why any of us should be surprised by the conversation. Change the subject matter and it could have been a conversation with almost any U. S. politician, insurance company representative, complaint department, or ex-wife/husband.

Hello all,
Yes I used to get very angry at these things but now if you look at it in a different light most of the world today is your own private circus show.
Also, to add a little more on this P.O., they had full length overhead wall signs of all prices on different types of mail (priority, express, registered, etc). Just five days ago the signs were replaced with exact copies but no money amounts. Guess to many people argued with clerks with amount.

A lot of the things I mail overseas, such as post cards and covers are pretty standard. first class international. I just weigh them, apply postage, and place them in the mail box. When something unusual comes up, I check the usps.com website to get the rate before I take to the post office so we're both on the same page.

I generally, use the main city post office unless I know I'll be near a smaller town, whose PO's I prefer to use but are all farther away. One scale at the main PO seems to be consistently off by .10 ounce. I had them check it once and asked them to reset it when it didn't even match the scale in the lobby, and my weight was correct. That was a while ago, now I just don't bother, though the next overseas ounce is 80 cents more. When I've had something close checked elsewhere or at another scale at the main post office, I'm told it's right on.

Dianne Earl:

My local CPC Outlet is in a 7-Eleven, up the street. I get the same treatment as you. The folks all love to see the obsolete postage I put on my letters.

I look at it this way also:

I take an envelope, stuff it with stamps, It weighs less than one ounce, and all it costs me is 42 cents to mail it anywhere in the
The United States, and Puerto Rico.

72 cents to Canada, and 92 cents to other countries.

The bargain of the century and no GST tax Had to slip that in, to bust them on David.

One of those days at the small home town post office. I made a quick stop to send a little package off to Canada. Nancy looked at me and said you want stamps on this right and I said yes.

She weighed the letter and then said she better check the size, thus suggesting we put more postage on it. I said sure we don't want it coming back as we talked about the old men cutting grass in the rain today.

Before we knew it she had put a postage meter stamp on the package. We laughed and I said that's cool it is what is inside that counts.

Of course we continued our thoughts on the grass cutting since these people are retired and it wasn't like they couldn't wait for a little less rain. The conversation ended on the note if I had the new Chrome stamps at which point I reminded her I picked those up last week.

Then she said I hope your daughter recovers and I chalked up another great visit to the local post office.
