This December 31st, will conclude my fourth year as aa member of the American Philatelic Society. I have recruited a member each year for the first three. It was looking bleak, but my friend in Minot, NDak joined last week. I got the $5 cheque this evening.

My four-year, unbroken recruiting record, once again, gets my name in print, in the April AP issue.

Think I can do it for the fifth year? 2009 will hope for the 5-year record!

David

David Giles thanks for reminding me to bring the letter from the APS to the stamp club Thursday...i believe the offer is 1/3 off membership cost if someone from an APS affiliate club joins ...i have come close to gettng 1/3 of the membership to become members and thereby we would not have to pay dues for the club..but people can be tough about joinning !!

Bobgggg:

I did not recruit Lamanama. My friend, with whom I have traded stamps with since 1991, joined. I put his name on one of the cards that came with my copy of The American Philatelist, and sent it down to Phil B. to put into the post. (No postage necessary if mailed in the United States), eh?

DJD:

2009 will be the 100th anniversary of the founding of Les Glorieux... and the year they get their 25th Stanley Cup win.

Phil:

I got the letter from the APS about the 2/3rds membership dues if you join in October. I read the information to the OPS (as I am the APS representative). I don't know if any of them will take advantage of the programme, as the club is a Chapter of the APS; so we get the American Philatelist, anyways.

I didn't think the Pens won their first cup back then. However at least we agree they will get another this season.

I might be talked into becoming a member.

i have been a member of the APS since a fellow at work introduced me to the magazine back in 1972...i consider it an honor and a privilege to be a member...membership gives you recognition as a reliable stamp collector...i have been out to APS Hq 3 times ..twice when they were at State College and once a Bellefonte..all beautiful times..the staff exists to be helpful to the membership..i have been to at least 6 APS National shows...Orlando, Providence, Biloxi, Washington 2006, most recently Hartford....everyone is equal..you can mingle with the APS president and other officers ..you are a member not a number.....

Thanks Phil - I'm glad to be back except for the work thing!

I think every philatelist should be a member of the APS and/or a similar organization. There is so much to learn from them and so much to give back to future collectors. An organization like the APS is the best way to do it!

For the record... Phil B. recruited me as a member of the APS. It's one of the more intelligent descisions I have made in my life.

I Have Been A Member/Dealer Since 1984.
I Have All The Magazines Since Then.
After All This Time I Still Read The new Issue From Page To Page.
My Only Regret Is ,I Cannot receive The Circuit Books.
This Is Not The Fault Of The A.P.S. But Of The Canadian Governments
Policy Of Taxing The Total Value Of The Books prior The Receipt.
You Can Imagine My Horror When I Receive A Bill For 7% Of The Total Of Six Books.
The A.P.S. Then Told My That Almost All The Books Sent To Canada
Were Returned Undelivered.
A Real Shame, I Loved These Books.
When I Visited Phil And Jopie In Was One Of The Pleasures To Go Through His Books When They Arrived.
Maybe When The Current Government Revoke The GST. I Can Start Again .
Sorry To Be So Long Winded.

David Dennis there will be another APS box available for your perusal next time you are in this neck of the woods...the APS tried to work something out for Canadian APS members to receive the circuits..but I guess your guys were too tough..unless it looks like a straight letter..my post office makes me fill out a customs form..like to send David Giles his auction catalog...if the catalog was mailed direct from the auction house I doubt very much they would have had to make out a form....
