Sing Sing, you know..the place "Up The River" the town is now called Ossining but the prison will always be Sing Sing ! I saw this one at the cover show today in a dollar box..kind of a local item..it struck my interest so I grabbed it !

Here's Sing Sing Correctional Facility, courtesy of Google Earth. A railroad bisects the campus.

This cover fits the thread...note the sponsorship is the "Sing Sing Philatelic Association"!:

Hi Will, the show was just O.K. it was nothing like the shows that John Nunes put on where there were lots of smaller dealers to pick through their boxes..thank goodness for George McGowan he always has something for us !!

Nice cover! Especially entertaining to see it addressed to Sing Sing, instead of Ossining.

philb: About how many dealers were there? I wish I still could have gone. Maybe next year or I'll just hit the monthly show which is later this month. Work is too erratic for me to plan anything, but I'm making progress towards more auctions!

Phil, I remember Sing Sing very well, no, not as an occupant. My train passed through Ossing every day coming and going to work in Manhattan. I remember there was a bear siting in Ossing when I still lived in Cortlandt Manor but that was over 9 years ago.

One of the more interesting items collected by my paternal grandmother was a sterling silver souvenir spoon from Sing Sing Prison. Against the rather more traditional souvenir spoons from places like Boston and New York City, it's a bit of a standout in the collection, which now hangs in a shadowbox in my dining room. I may unload some of the others at some point, but that Sing Sing spoon is a keeper!
