I went to a yard sale this am and found a zip lock bag of stamps-
please see picture--this is just a sampling of the stamps. They date from late 1940's to 1950's and most are cut off of post cards that were sent as advertisements-there are approx 200 of these, and approx 100 of the orange "Special Delivery" stamps and a handful of the precancels.
I paid $5. It's a shame the cards didn't still have these on them--they advertised things like chicken feed, etc. Do you think I paid too much?? They had an original price of $25 on them-which definitely was too much!

(oops-forgot the picture!-sorry!)

Thanks!

In my view if you buy stamps you want or like for a price you are happy with then it is a good deal. In addition you will have some good trading stock.

Gusstboy...I think that you did pay too much,if there are only 5 to ten stamps that you need, however, like mkfarm
stated, you have excess trading material

Come on! Somebody at least LIE to me and say I got a bunch of nice
"somethinganothers"!

I am so bummed! I could have spent $5 getting something great from a trustworthy seller here on the forum.
Okay, lesson learned! No more garage sale stamps unless they're from a nice lady trying to unload all of bobgggg's stamps.

Just to rub it in, I went with James Yesterday, to the Red Cross stamp shop. We cherry picked a few stamps to fill holes in our collections. My lot cost $25. When I came home I priced them all, from the Stanley Gibbons web site. They came to $125. I think I got a great deal.

Put it this way Gussy

A new pair of shoes would have cost between 30 and 60 bucks. I think your $5.00 was well spent. Besides I and I'm certain a few others can use some of those spares and you will get some new stamps in exchange.

Yeah Gussy. You may have many dupes at the moment but they can turn into stamps that you need so IMHO I think you did good. Just look at it as an investment that will mature over time.
